You've all seen applets in effect - when text and/or images on a website move about or have special effects. They are java programs that run behind the scenes. Probably the most popular is the lake applet, written by David Griffiths. Water is reflective, both literally and figuratively, and people love to use this applet creatively.
Another popular applet is the snow applet. I use alcsnow.class. Although I am not pleased with the way the snow changes directions, it does make a winter scene seem a little more real. I have yet to learn the name of the person who wrote alcsnow.class. If you know, please share the information so I can give proper credit.
The rain and weather applets are by Fabio Ciucci.
The flame applet used on this site is by Ion Chen.
A good place to search for free use java scripts is The Java Boutique. Remember, if you use any of the scripts on your site, you must give the author/creator credit. A link back to his/her site is always appreciated and often required.
Here are a few images that I've done using the applets mentioned above. I'll add more when I can.
